News: Woman dies after being hit by car in Clovis

CLOVIS, NM - A woman has died of injuries suffered in a pedestrian accident in Clovis earlier this month, reports Eastern New Mexico News.

The victim of the Feb. 6 incident was identified as 43-year-old Lisa Gutierrez-Ruiz.  According to police, Gutierrez-Ruiz was walking across Jones Street near the intersection with Seventh Street at about 9 p.m. when she was struck by a westbound vehicle turning on to Jones Street.  The victim passed away last Friday in a hospital in Lubbock.

Police said the 16-year-old driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.  An investigation is ongoing into the cause of the accident.  The driver was reported to have told police the pedestrian was on his blind side and he did not see her.

Police said the accident was a reminder to pedestrians walking at night to wear bright clothing, carry a flashlight, walk facing traffic, and avoid crossing streets where there is poor lighting, our Albuquerque car accident attorney adds.
