Pedestrian fatally struck by vehicle on US 285 north of Roswell

ROSWELL, NM -  The New Mexico State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred on U.S. Highway 285.

According to a news release from the NMSP, the incident took place at milepost 114 north of Roswell at around midnight June 1.

Investigators said a man was walking in the southbound lane of U.S. 285 when he was struck by a 2019 Dodge Durango.  The victim, identified as 29-year-old Elijah Lamb of Crossville, Tennessee, was pronounced dead at the scene.  

The driver of the Durango, a 27-year-old woman, was hospitalized with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

State police said Lamb appeared to have been using alcohol and that, along with wearing dark clothing and walking in the lane of travel, were believed to be contributing factors in the crash.
