Resident killed when car slams into home in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM - A man died after an alleged drunk driver slammed into his home in northeast Albuquerque on Thursday afternoon, police said.

A report by KOB states that the incident took place on the 10900 block of Mahlon Avenue NE at about 12:30 p.m.

According to investigators, the driver of a Ford Expedition crashed through the garage door and into the residence. The Ford also struck another vehicle, pushing it into the home where it struck the 74-year-old homeowner as he sat inside.

The victim, who was trapped under the vehicle, was extricated by rescuers and pronounced dead after being taken to UNM Hospital.

The driver, 52-year-old Mark Castello, sustained minor injuries.  Police said he admitted to smoking meth and marijuana before driving, and also was allegedly drunk.  Castello faces multiple charges, including DWI resulting in death and driving with a revoked license.
