Suspected drunk driver crashes into NM police academy in Santa Fe

SANTA FE, NM - Authorities said a suspected drunk driver crashed through a fence at the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy in Santa Fe on Monday morning, the Santa Fe New Mexican reports.

A spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety was quoted as saying the driver was headed east on Jaguar Drive at about 9:15 a.m. when he drove across the westbound lane.  The vehicle went over a curb and sidewalk, then through the fence before hitting a retaining wall.  The vehicle also struck some New Mexico State Police patrol cars.

The driver was hospitalized with a broken ankle. The 30-year-old man, a Sante Fe resident, was suspected of being intoxicated at the time and was expected to face charges.  No other injuries were reported.

The crash happened at a location where 74 police cadets had been marching in formation for exercises a short time earlier.  Our Albuquerque car accident lawyer will update this news blog with any additional information as it comes to light.
