Truck crash, fuel spill blocks lane on I-25 near La Bajada

LA BAJADA, NM - A truck accident disrupted traffic on Interstate 25 in Santa Fe County on Thursday afternoon, the New Mexico Department of Transportation said.

The crash happened on I-25 south near La Bajada.  According to the NMDOT, a truck driver fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a guardrail on the interstate.  The incident resulted in a spill of about 250 gallons of diesel fuel.

I-25 south was down to one lane for several hours while Hazmat crews responded to the scene for the cleanup.

The lane was reopened but closed again at 6 p.m.  A concrete barrier was being installed and traffic was expected back to normal by Friday morning.  Officials said the wall barrier would remain in place until the entire La Bajada reconstruction project is completed, whereupon the guardrail will be replaced.  Should any additional information come to light, our Albuquerque truck accident lawyer will update this news blog.
