Woman charged in collision that killed bicyclist in Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES, NM - A woman was arrested on multiple charges in connection with an accident that killed a bicycle rider in Las Cruces, KOAT reported.

The victim, identified as 70-year-old Roberto Granado, was riding a bicycle south on Melendres Street at about noon when the incident occurred last Saturday.  Investigators said a woman was driving north on the roadway when she sideswiped a parked vehicle and then struck Granado.  The rider was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the driver involved, 39-year-old Vianey Adams, tried to leave the scene of the crash but was stopped by a bystander.

Adams is facing charges that include vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of a crash, driving under the influence, and child abuse.  Her 3-year-old son was with her at the time of the incident, according to investigators.
