AZTEC, NM - The New Mexico State Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred last week in San Juan County.
According to an NMSP news release, the incident happened May 17 on US 550 north of Aztec. State Police said a woman was driving a 1998 Jeep SUV southbound on the highway at about 7:30 p.m. when she approached a left-hand curve. The driver was unable to negotiate the curve and went off the roadway. The Jeep struck a tree and rolled over.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. She was identified as 29-year-old Salina Levi of Aztec.
State Police said alcohol, speed, and failure to utilize seatbelts appeared to be contributing factors in the crash and fatality.
