2 semis involved in fatal collision on I-69 near Pendleton

PENDLETON, IN - One person was killed and another injured in a truck collision in Madison County early Sunday morning.

According to WXIN, two semis collided on Interstate 69 near Pendleton at about 4:15 a.m.  The Madison County Sheriff's Office said that the driver of a 2020 Volvo was headed south on I-69 when the vehicle crashed into the back of another semi near mile marker 214.9.  The Volvo rolled over and became separated from its trailer.  

The Volvo driver was pronounced dead at the scene.  He was identified as 26-year-old Piyush Bali of Canada.  A passenger in the Volvo was taken to IU Methodist Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.  The other truck driver was not injured.

Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the wreck, which shut down I-69 for seven hours while the scene was being cleared.
