GREENFIELD, IN - A tractor-trailer driver died following a collision in Hancock County early Friday morning, reports WISH.
The accident happened on Interstate 70 near the State Road 9 overpass in Greenfield at about 5 a.m. Police said the driver of a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro was speeding in the left lane of I-70 westbound while a 2020 International semi-tractor pulling a trailer was traveling in the right lane.
As the two vehicles approached the overpass, the truck hit the Camaro, then struck the overpass and a temporary concrete barrier wall. The man driving the tractor-trailer, whose name was not been released yet, died at the scene. The Camaro driver, identified as 58-year-old Daniel Tauber, was not injured. Authorities said a large amount of diesel fuel was spilled on the interstate along with debris from the wreck.
The incident shut down I-70 west in the area as Greenfield police, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department and the Hancock County Fatal Accident Crash Team responded to the scene. Traffic was reported to be backed up into Henry County.
Indiana State Police and the Indiana Department of Transportation were also dispatched to the site. Crews were checking the overpass and barrier wall for any damage from the accident.
