Accident in Jefferson Township injures 83-year-old driver

JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, MI - A collision at an intersection in Jefferson Township sent an elderly driver to the hospital, WBND reports.

The accident happened May 30 at Dailey Road and Pine Lake Street.  According to the Cass County Sheriff's Office, 83-year-old Karolyn Young of Niles was driving east on Pine Lake Street at about 10 a.m. and failed to yield when crossing the intersection.

Her car collided with a vehicle going north on Dailey Road driven by a 17-year-old from Edwardsburg.  Young was transported to Saint Joseph Mishawaka Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.

Investigators with the sheriff's office said drugs and alcohol were not considered to have been contributing factors in the collision.  Both drivers were wearing their seat belts.
