Driver suspected of DUI following fatal Hampton Township accident

HAMPTON TOWNSHIP, MI - A driver was arrested following a fatal collision that occurred in Hampton Township on Sunday night, police said.

A report by MLive.com states that two vehicles were involved in the wreck on West Hampton Road between Kaczmarek Drive and North Finn Road.

Police and first responders arrived at the scene at about 9:30 p.m., and paramedics took three crash victims to an area hospital.

One of the drivers, a 52-year-old woman from Essexville, was pronounced dead.  A teenage passenger was critically injured.  The other driver, a 44-year-old Essexville man, was released from the hospital and then arrested on suspicion of being intoxicated.  He was scheduled for arraignment in Bay County District Court.

Hampton Township Public Safety is continuing to investigate the crash with the assistance of Michigan State Police.
