Drug impairment suspected in wrong-way wreck on I-94

KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI - A driver involved in a wrong-way accident in Kalamazoo County Monday morning is believed to have been impaired by drugs at the time, according to a report by Fox 2 Detroit.

Police said the driver of an Acura was going east in the westbound lanes of Interstate 94 at about 10:15 a.m. and collided head-on with a Dodge pickup truck near Portage Road.

The driver of the Acura, a 26-year-old man from Kalamazoo, was transported to Bronson Hospital in critical condition.  The driver of the Dodge, a 29-year-old Appleton, Wisconsin man, was transported to the same hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Troopers said the Acura driver was suspected of being under the influence as they continue to investigate the crash, and lab results are pending.
