WAYLAND, MI - Michigan State Police said a driver whose car became disabled on a highway was fatally struck by another vehicle in Allegan County on Thursday night.
MLive.com reports the incident happened in the northbound lanes of U.S. 131 in Leighton Township. A 72-year-old Grand Rapids woman stopped her car on the shoulder of the freeway at about 8 p.m. after experiencing a tire problem.
Police said the victim then got out of her vehicle to check the issue and was in a travel lane when she was hit by a Buick LaCrosse driven by a 44-year-old Kalamazoo man. The woman suffered fatal injuries.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
