Kalamazoo public safety officer injured when car hits firetruck

KALAMAZOO, MI - An accident Sunday morning sent a Kalamazoo public safety officer to the hospital, WOOD reported.

The crash happened on Interstate 94 in the vicinity of Sprinkle Road at about 11 a.m. According to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, two KDPS vehicles were responding to a previous crash when they were struck by a car.

Two officers were inside one of the vehicles that was hit, KDPS Engine Two firetruck. One of the officers was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening. The driver and the other officer were not injured.

Authorities are investigating the crash, which reduced westbound I-94 to one lane.
