Kalamazoo resident critically injured in Portage pedestrian accident

PORTAGE, MI - Police and firefighters were called to the scene of a pedestrian accident in Portage last week.

MLive.com reports it happened April 8 on South Westnedge Avenue near West Milham Avenue.  An investigation determined that a pedestrian walked off the sidewalk at about 6:13 p.m. and entered the path of a car heading south on South Westnedge Avenue.

The pedestrian, a 29-year-old resident of Kalamazoo, was struck by the vehicle and was transported to Bronson Hospital with critical injuries.

The Portage Department of Public Safety is investigating the incident and said that speed or alcohol did not appear to have been contributing factors.

The southbound lanes of South Westnedge were closed for about an hour and a half for the accident response and investigation.

Further updates will be provided by our Michigan car accident lawyer as more information becomes available regarding the incident.
