Motorcyclist dies following collision with car in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Grand Rapids police released details of a fatal collision between a car and a motorcycle on Wednesday, according to WOOD TV.

The incident took place in the vicinity of Michigan Street NE and Lawndale Avenue NE at about 1:30 p.m.  A police investigation determined that the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed before crashing with a four-door Ford.

The motorcycle rider, a 21-year-old man, died at the scene.  No other injuries were reported.

The driver of the car remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Michigan Street was closed from Holmdene Boulevard to Plymouth Avenue NE while the accident was being cleared and investigated.
