Niles woman identified as victim of Silver Creek Township wreck

CASS COUNTY, MI - The victim of a fatal single-vehicle crash in Cass County last Thursday morning has been identified, reports WBND.

The driver killed in the incident in Silver Creek Township was 33-year-old Amanda Kay Huffman of Niles, authorities said.  According to the Cass County Sheriff's Office, she was driving south on Garrett Road at about 11:57 a.m. when her vehicle crossed over the center line and went off the east side of the roadway.   The vehicle then entered a ditch, rolled, and came to rest in a field.  Niles, who was trapped under the vehicle, died after being taken to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital.

Her passenger, 33-year-old George Lawrence Tovey III of NIles, was taken to the same hospital but refused medical treatment.  Neither occupant was wearing their seat belt, the sheriff's office said.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.  At this point, neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have been contributing factors.
