Springfield man dies after car crashes into tree on Avenue A

CALHOUN COUNTY, MI - The Calhoun County Sheriff's Department and local first responders were called to the scene of a fatal crash in Springfield on Thursday night.

A report by WKZO states that the accident happened in the 300 block of Avenue A and was reported at about 8:23 p.m.  Investigators said that the driver of a vehicle went off the road and crashed into a tree.

The driver, a 41-year-old Springfield man, was extricated from the vehicle by rescue crews and pronounced dead after being taken to Bronson Hospital in Battle Creek.

The sheriff's department said that speed was likely a contributing factor in the wreck.

The Calhoun County Accident Reconstruction Team is continuing to investigate the incident.
